LETHBRIDGE - A second quarter scoring lull proved too much to overcome for the UVic Vikes, who suffered a 74-63 loss to the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
BOXSCORE
The 'Horns defeated the Vikes for the first time since 2003, ending a nine-game futility streak with a well-balanced scoring attack that saw five players reach double figures.
Lethbridge shot 52 percent from the floor, a season-high against the league's no. 2 defensive unit, while holding the Vikes to just 34 percent shooting. The Vikes netted just eight points in the second stanza, and the 'Horns took full advantage by taking a 35-22 lead into halftime.
#Zac Andrus# scored a game-high 16 points in the loss, shooting 6-13 and also picking up five assists. #Cyril Indome# was the only other UVic player in double digits as the Winnipeg native finished with 13 points. #Omid Pourmomen# collected 12 rebounds.
Lethbridge guard Jeff Price led the home side with 13 points, connecting on all seven of his free-throw attempts. Randy Davis and Derek Waldner both added 12 points apiece, Remington Stemler came off the bench to net 11, and Rob Cooper contributed 10.
The Vikes drop to 7-6 with the loss, and fall into a precarious position in the Pacific division playoff landscape. With only three berths guaranteed from the division, and one wildcard, UVic dropped to fourth behind Trinity Western.
UVic is also trying to hold off the surging Fraser Valley Cascades, who are 7-6. The Vikes host the Cascades next weekend in a doubleheader at McKinnon Gym.
