OTTAWA - Playing their first game of the season against CIS competition, the UVic Vikes men's basketball team allowed an early lead to slip away in a 74-64 loss to the Windsor Lancers.

The Vikes were victimized by a fourth quarter rally by the Ontario West defending champs, who exploded for 27 points in the final frame. The Vikes led by seven at one point in the first half.

Jeff Cullen# netted the Vikes scoring high with 19 points on 7-for-19 shooting. #
Marco Dolcetti# contributed 18 in the starting role, and #Mike Berg# added 10 points. #
Ryan MacKinnon# had a team-high 10 rebounds.
Windsor's Lien Philip was nearly unstoppable with a game high 26 points on 8-for-9 shooting, while also managing 20 'boards. Isaac Kuon, an OUA All-Star last season, added 16 points for the Lancers.
Windsor won the OUA West last season, and lost in the first round of the CIS Final 8 to eventual champion Saskatchewan Huskies.
The game was the first of three for the Vikes at the Ottawa-hosted House Laughton Tournament. On Saturday UVic will tip-off against the Dave DeAveiro-led McGill Redmen before facing the six-time CIS champion Carleton Ravens on Sunday.
