Undefeated record in tact; Vikes tie Spartans

VICTORIA - With scoring limited to a pair of penalty kicks, the UVic Vikes women's soccer upheld their undefeated record with a 1-1 draw against the two-time defending CIS champion Trinity Western Spartans.

BOXSCORE

Trinity Western was first to score, with Colleen Webber taking advantage of the penalty kick opportunity in the 17th minute. The Vikes countered before the half expired with #Kaitlyn Hunter# converting the earned penalty kick opportunity.

While there was no shortage of scoring opportunities for either side, the two Pacific rivals failed to produce a score in open play. Shots were 14-8 in favour of the visiting no. 4 ranked Spartans.

Vikes 'keeper #Stephanie Parker# made five stops, while her counterpart Kristen Funk was called upon to make three saves. Funk and Parker were two of the top-ranked goalies in conference play last season, ranking first and second, respectively in goals against average.

UVic and Alberta remain the only undefeated teams in the Canada West, with the Vikes record now standing at 2-0-3. Alberta is perfect at 6-0.

The Vikes return to the pitch Sunday when Centennial Stadium hosts the no. 7 UBC T-Birds at 12 p.m. Trinity Western returns to the mainland to face the Fraser Valley Cascades.
