VICTORIA – For the third time in her career, University of Victoria women's soccer midfielder
Sophie Fingarson has been named a Canada West All-Star.
The fourth-year midfielder from Calgary, Alta., adds the 2026 honour to previous all-star selections in 2023 and 2024. After spending the 2025 season studying abroad, Fingarson returned to the Vikes lineup and once again proved to be one of the conference's top midfielders.
A key figure in UVic's midfield, Fingarson started all 15 matches this season and played an integral role at both ends of the pitch. Her ability to control the tempo of the game, connect the defence and attack, and remain composed in possession made her a consistent presence throughout the campaign.
Fingarson's veteran leadership helped guide the Vikes to a fourth-place finish in the Pacific Division with a 4-3-7 record, earning the program another Canada West all-star recognition.
The announcement comes on the heels of the women's soccer team punching their ticket to the Canada West semifinal match. The Vikes delivered the biggest win in several years on Oct. 30, upsetting the Prairie Division champion Calgary Dinos 2-1 in the Canada West quarterfinal at McMahon Stadium. Entering the postseason as the fourth seed from the Pacific Division, the Vikes knocked off the conference's top Prairie seed to advance to the Canada West semifinal.
The Vikes continue their Canada West playoff run and will look to punch their ticket to nationals on Nov. 5 against Thompson Rivers University at 7:00 p.m. at UBC.
