Cougars fall victim to Hunter and Sawicki

VICTORIA – #Jaclyn Sawicki# and #Kaitlyn Hunter# paced the UVic Vikes women's soccer team to their first win in six outings on Saturday afternoon, downing the Regina Cougars 2-0.

With three matches left in the regular season, the win lifts the Vikes past Regina in the Canada West standings into seventh place and keeps their postseason hopes alive. There are three games left in the 2010 schedule.

Five minutes into the match, Hunter supplied the opening assist to Sawicki at the top of the box, who went top left shelf for the opening score. Hunter produced the insurance marker in the 33rd minute, connecting with an assist from Stephanie Davidson.

Vikes goalkeeper Stephanie Parker made four saves to record her second shutout of the season.

The win moves the Vikes to 3-5-3 and drops Regina to 3-6-2. UVic will now play host to the Manitoba Bisons on Sunday at Centennial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00pm.
