VICTORIA - A record number of UVic Vikes achieved top grades in 2009-10, with 73 student-athletes named Vikes Honour Roll recipients.

Vikes student-athletes, representing nine UVic academic faculties, were recognized for their academic achievement in the 2009-10 season. Vikes Honour Roll status is bestowed upon student-athletes who achieved a grade-point average of 6.6 (A equivalent) in the previous academic year.

See below for complete list of recipients.

The previous high total of Honour Roll recipients came in 2008-09 with 60 Vikes student-athletes achieving this distinction.

"High academic achievement for our student-athletes is of paramount importance to our program," said director of Athletics and Recreation Clint Hamilton. "We are certainly proud of our student-athletes, but this record-setting recognition is testament to our UVic focus on excellence at all levels and the tremendous support we receive from academic faculties, deans and professors from across campus."

These 73 recipients will be formally recognized later in the fall at the sixth annual Vikes Honour Roll Luncheon, taking place November 25 at the University Club. At this time the Provost Award will also be announced, which recognizes the returning student-athlete with the highest grade-point average.
