LANGLEY – The reigning national champs Trinity Western Spartans snapped their four game winless streak on Saturday, downing the UVic Vikes women's soccer team 4-0.
Spartans striker and 2008 Canada West MVP Nikki Wright opened the scoring in the 23rd minute to have the home side up 1-0 at the half.
The match began to unravel for the Vikes when midfielder
Noelle Sylvester was red-carded in the 64th minute.
The Spartans eventually capitalized on the advantage, scoring three times in the final seven minutes. Alicia Tesan scored twice ('84, '90) and Daneila Gerig potted her fifth of the season in the 86th minute.
The loss drops the Vikes to 2-3-3 ahead of next week's road series against Saskatchewan and conference leaders Alberta. Their next match is scheduled for 12pm kickoff against Saskatchewan in Saskatoon on October 16th.
