Delia and Hunter lift Vikes to victory

ABBOTSFORD, BC – The UVic Vikes women's soccer team recorded their first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, downing the Fraser Valley Cascades 3-1.

BOX SCORE

After a scoreless first half, the Cascades' defence finally buckled when they conceded an own goal in the 49th minute. With the momentum in their favour, #Jamie Delia# struck again for the Vikes three minutes later for the 2-0 score line.

The Cascades offence was rewarded for their efforts in the 66th minute when Danielle de Bruin slotted home a pass from Andrea McLachlan to beat Vikes keeper #Stephanie Parker#. Parker did not concede another goal, however, registering three saves by the final whistle.

In the 90th minute the Cascades conceded a penalty, which led to #Kaitlyn Hunter# notching the Vikes third and final goal.

The Vikes now improve to 1-0-2 and host the Cascades in their home opener at Centennial Stadium next Saturday, September 25th. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:15pm.
