VICTORIA - The UVic women's soccer team will wrap up their Canada West regular season this weekend at Centennial Stadium playing the University of Fraser Valley Cascades (3-7-3). The game will take place at 12 p.m. PDT and will be the second game of the Vikes-Cascades double header spanning two weekends.
The Vikes currently hold a 6-4-3 record and are tied in points with the Calgary Dinos for the fourth and last qualifying spot to the Canada West Final Four held Nov. 5-6. This weekend's game is a must-win as both the Dinos (6-3-3) and Saskatchewan (5-5-2), currently four points behind the Vikes, have opportunities to steal the last spot to the Final Four.
UVic will honour fifth-year midfielder #
Sarah Clark# (North Vancouver, B.C.) for five seasons in the Vikes uniform. Clark will be honoured for her committment to the program, as well as her leadership on and off the pitch.
Last weekend the Vikes faced off with the Cascades on the road and earned the much needed three points thanks to two goals, three minutes apart, from rookie #
Shannon Elder# (Victoria, B.C.). The UVic women were down 1-0 to Fraser Valley until the last ten minutes of the game when Elder's two come-back goals gave the Vikes the 2-1 victory they needed to move up in standings.
Goalkeeper #
Stephanie Parker# (Chemainus, B.C.) has been the commander of the UVic back line posting three shutouts in 12 games with only 12 goals against. Parker has helped the Vikes remain undefeated in the last three games.
In the other end, fourth-year midfielder #
Nathalie Scharf# (Salmon Arm, B.C.) and second-year #
Maryse Reichgeld# (North Vancouver, B.C.) have been very effective, as both lead the team in scoring with three goals each. Rookies Elder and #
Emma Greig# (Parksville, B.C.) have also been worth up front, while second-year #
Jaclyn Sawicki# (Coquitlam, B.C.) and #Carly Branion-Calles# (Richmond, B.C.) have been consistent anchors for the squad.
