LETHBRIDGE - The Vikes women's soccer team improved their Canada West record to 2-2-1 thanks to goals from #
Maryse Reichgeld# and recent team Canada pick-up #
Jaclyn Sawicki#. The Vikes defeated the Pronghorns by a score of 2-0 and will move on to face Calgary tomorrow, Sept. 25, at 11:00 a.m. PDT.
In the first half, the Vikes and Pronghorns kept each other off the board despite numerous chances in both ends. Following an early Horns attack, Sawicki responded with a clear shot from inside the penalty area but was unable to convert. Back and forth action continued as Lethbridge striker
Shannon Clark also had an opportunity to give her team the go-ahead but her shot sailed high over the crossbar.
As half time neared, a collision between Horns keeper
Taura Willoughby and her own defender resulted in a loose ball in front of the Lethbridge goal. Reichgeld pounced on the opportunity and making no mistake, lifted the Vikes 1-0.
In the 65th minute of play, Reichgeld was able to cross the ball and find Sawicki alone at the far post. Sawicki slotted the ball in the back of the net to seal the game 2-0 for the Vikes.
Goalkeeper #
Stephanie Parker# was only called up to action for one save and will record the shut out for the Vikes. The team will continue their road trip to Calgary tomorrow before returning home.
