The Vikes are currently sitting in sixth place in the Canada West and tied with three other schools with 10 points. Their conference record of 3-2-1 will only be the start of their campaign towards the 2011 CIS National Championship, set to be held at McGill University on Nov. 10-13, 2011. To date, the Vikes have scored a total of eight goals, which came from seven different goal scorers, proving the depth of this year's squad.
Head coach #
Tracy David# said, "We know now that we can't depend on one individual person. We know that we have players that are capable of scoring for us and that is an incredible and powerful message."
David intends to prepare the same for this weekend's games and is expecting to respect that last weekend's matches will be fresh in everyone's minds. David said, "the preparation has to be the same as always in terms of the level of intensity. We know that both teams can hurt us. It's going to be important for us to be ready and sometimes that is the danger of playing teams back-to-back."
The Calgary Dinos are entering this weekend also with a 3-2-1 conference record, after losing 2-1 to the Vikes last weekend. The Dinos are led by a new coach, Matt Shepherd, who takes the helm from 17-year head coach Robin Slot. Fourth-year forward scoring sensation Tessa Miller and second-year forward Sarah Benson lead the Dinos in scoring with four and three goals, respectively. Fifth-years Caitlin Milne and Saaraa Premji will be heavily relied upon by coach Shepherd. Milne was a second team Canada West All-Star defender in 2010.
The Lethbridge Pronghorns are still on the hunt for their first win of the season despite boasting a heavy veteran laden team. Currently having a 0-5-1 conference record, the Horns draw from 12 players who are in at least their third year of eligibility. Seniors Janelle and Jaclyn Groten will be largely called upon in the midfield and Kathy Curtis will be key in the backfield. After sitting out a year due to transferring from the University of South Dakota, goalkeeper Taura Truba will be one of the most important players on the pitch this weekend.
