VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes women's soccer team will host two CIS top-10 ranked teams in a battle for playoff hosting rights on Oct. 19-20 at Centennial Stadium. The Vikes, along with visitors UBC and Trinity Western, have already secured their spot for the post-season and are now vying for final seeding.

The Vikes, UBC, Trinity Western, Regina and Fraser Valley have all secured a playoff position and will advance one-step closer to the Victoria-hosted CIS national championship, Nov. 8-11.
The Vikes enter this weekend's games as the No.5-nationally ranked team after improving to an 8-1-1 record following their Oct. 7 victory over the Fraser Valley Cascades. The Vikes boast one of the deepest teams that
Tracy David has had in her 10-year career as head coach of the UVic women. Second-year
Emma Greig (Tofino, BC) leads the Canada West with 12 goals and three assists, while midfielder
Lindsay Hoetzel (Victoria, BC) has scored six goals and adds five assists.
The Vikes women have also has significant and consistent contributions from two-way players
Sarah Douglas (London, ONT), Nathalie Scharf (Salmon Arm, BC),
Jacqueline Harrison (Whitehorse, YT), Jaclyn Sawicki (Coquitlam, BC) and
Amy Lawrence (Burnaby, BC) Fifth-year keeper
Stephanie Parker (Chemainus, BC) has been solid between the pipes posting four shutouts and having a 0.37 goals-against-average.
The Spartans, currently the Canada West leaders and ranked No. 3 in the country, boast an impressive 9-1 record and are two points ahead of the Vikes in the standings. Points are on the line in this weekend's important match ups, as the close race for playoff hosting will be decided game-by-game.
Trinity Western boast seven seniors competing in their final season as a Spartan including CIS All-Canadian
Kristen Funk, who leads the Canada West with a 0.33 goals-against-average and has tallied seven shutouts. Rookie
Krista Gommeringer is the conference leader in points as the forward has tallied nine goals and seven assists so far.
Fourth-year striker
Janine Frazao has been the consistent pace setter for the UBC Thunderbirds, who are third in the Canada West with a 7-1-2 record. Frazao has tallied eight goals in the season, five of which came in a single match. As well, the T-Birds boast fourth-year forward
Taryn Lim, who has netted seven goals and added four assists. Completing the scoring trifecta is fourth-year striker
Rachael Sawer who has scored five goals and has five assists.
The Vikes will host the Thunderbirds on Oct. 19 and the Spartans on Oct. 20, with both games taking place at 5 p.m. at UVic's Centennial Stadium. The games will be broadcast live at
