VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes men's rowing team earned their second consecutive Western Canadian University Rowing Championship title this weekend at Burnaby Lake. The UVic men topped off the day with a rock-solid win in the varsity eights, clearing the line eight seconds ahead of second-place Thunderbirds, an excellent finish to a day of strong performances.

“Overall it was a great day for the program,” said head coach of the Vikes men's rowing team, Howard Campbell.  “It really sets up our process for building towards the CURC regatta in two weeks.”

The UVic women came away only four points shy of a win over leaders UBC. The Vikes won both the varsity eight and four events as well as the lightweight four and double. Posting very competitive results, the team was unfortunate not to earn the overall victory.

Next up for the men's and women's rowing teams is the UVic-hosted Head of the Gorge regatta on Oct. 27 and Head of the Elk regatta on Oct. 28.
