The Vikes kicked off their preseason with two back-to-back games against fellow West Coasters the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds and the Trinity Western University Spartans. Proving that they would be a force to be reckoned with, the UVic women opened the year with a 5-0 victory over the Thunderbirds and a 3-0 win over the Spartans.

In the first weekend of their Canada West campaign, the Vikes hosted the University of Alberta Pandas and CIS newcomers the Mount Royal University Cougars. The UVic women were down by one going into the 77th minute but were able to tie up the game to make it 1-1 with a goal by third-year Mallory Hackett (Victoria, BC). The following day the Vikes put up a convincing win against the Mount Royal University Cougars as sophomore Emma Greig (Tofino, BC) scored a hat trick to combine with goals by Lindsay Hoetzel (Victoria, BC) and another from Hackett to make it 5-0.

The following weekend the Vikes travelled up north to Prince George, B.C. to take on the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves. The UVic women put up a solid 10-0 victory with another hat trick by Greig, two goals from Hoetzel and single tallies from Jacqueline Harrison (Whitehorse, YT), Sarah Douglas (London, ONT)Jana Yates (Summerland, BC)Cassie Dennis (Calgary, AB) and Janelle Smith (Vernon, BC).

Their third weekend of games would see the Vikes travel east of the Rockies to take on the University of Calgary Dinos and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. Goalkeeper Stephanie Parker (Chemainus, BC) earned her third and fourth shutouts of the season with the two road wins of 3-0 and 7-0, respectively.

Thus far undefeated, with a 4-0-1 record the Vikes cracked the CIS top-10 list for the first time in over two years. Hosting the University of Winnipeg Wesmen and the University of Manitoba Bisons the Vikes had an 11-0 win over the Wesmen with a third hat trick by the goal-savvy Greig and another shutout for Parker.  The Vikes handled the Bisons with a casual 5-1 victory, giving the UVic women another pair of wins to continue their undefeated streak.

A trip to the Prairies would prove to be slightly problematic for the Vikes as the University of Saskatchewan Huskies handed the UVic women their first loss of the season, 2-1, with the lone goal coming from Harrison. The following day, looking for redemption, the Vikes managed to eke out a 1-0 victory over the University of Regina Cougars.

A single game on the weekend of Oct. 12 had the Vikes travelling to Abbotsford, B.C. to play the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades. A very physical game, the Cascades kept the Vikes within one as Greig notched her 13th goal of the season in the 39th minute of play. The final result of 1-0 pushed the UVic women to a Canada West record of 8-1-1 with 25 points, within two of conference leaders Trinity Western Spartans.

In their final home games of the regular season the UVic women hosted the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds and the Trinity Western University Spartans, splitting the weekend with 2-1 a win over the Thunderbirds and a 1-0 loss to the Spartans.

Heading into Canada West playoffs, the Vikes had a regular season record of 9-2-1 and would face the Cascades in the first round. The visiting Cascades were handed a 3-0 loss with goals by Smith, Yates and Greig and the Vikes advanced to the Canada West championship hosted in Langley, B.C. by the Trinity Western Spartans. The UVic women beat UBC 1-0 in their first game to advance to the final on Sunday against the Spartans. The Vikes were unable to get the edge on the TWU women and fell 2-1 in a gritty battle between two sides that had both already qualified for the CIS Championship to take place in less than a week's time.

As hosts of the 2012 CIS Championship the Vikes were looking to duplicate last year's men's title win on home soil and kicked off the tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Sherbrooke University Vert et Or. In game two for the Vikes, a semifinal matchup against Canada West rivals Trinity Western University, the Vikes suffered a heartbreak loss that knocked them out of gold medal contention.  A Spartan goal in the 36th minute of play was enough to keep the Vikes out of the final as the Trinity Western defense kept the UVic women at bay.

The Vikes played their final game of the CIS Championship tournament against the Ottawa Gee-Gees and pushed the result right to the wire as the game went scoreless for 90 minutes before the Vikes went perfect on all four kicks to win the bronze.
