LIVE STREAM & STATS
The Vikes are coming off a successful road trip that extended their win-streak to seven after wins over Manitoba and Winnipeg. Carly Branion-Calles was the lone goal scorer in the 1-0 win over Manitoba. Second-half substitute and rookie
Natasha Magnus notched her first career goals scoring two in the 4-0 win over Winnipeg.
Following the pair of wins it was still not secured that the Canada West Final Four would come to Victoria, however, after a 2-2 draw between Alberta and UBC, the Vikes came away on top. The Pandas are currently one point back of the Vikes with a 9-1-2 record, while the Thunderbirds trail three points back with an 8-1-3 record.
The Vikes boast talent from front to back as forward
Emma Greig leads in points with four goals and four assists, while fifth-year central midfielder
Jacqueline Harrison has tallied five goals and two assists. Fifth-year keeper
Tanya Jones has now posted five shutouts and has a 0.758 save per centage. Add in the midfield talents of
Jaclyn Sawicki and Carly Branion-Calles, as well as defenders
Brigitte Greig and
Mallory Hackett and the Vikes have the experience they need to build off their 2012 CIS bronze-medal win.
This weekend the Vikes will host the Regina Cougars, who were recently at Centennial Stadium on Oct. 11. Four different goal scorers capitalized in the 4-0 win for the Vikes. Despite the score margin it took 45 minutes to break the seal against the Cougars as goalkeeper Kacey McFee was outstanding in the game. Meagan Cormier currently leads Regina with seven goals and two assists while Tayler Firth has tallied three this season.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
The playoff race is narrowing as Victoria, Alberta, UBC and Trinity Western have secured home-field advantage for their quarter-final match ups against Regina, Fraser Valley, Calgary and Saskatchewan, respectively. Should the Vikes win their opening round against the Cougars, they will be pitted against the winners of the Spartans-Huskies match up.
The Vikes enter this weekend with a 6-0 record at home and a win will secure them a spot in the Canada West Final Four and hosting rights for the conference tournament. The tournament is set for Nov. 1-2 at Centennial Stadium.
