VICTORIA - The University of Victoria Vikes women's soccer team will look to close out their final home stand of the season this weekend, Oct. 11-12, hosting the Regina Cougars and the No. 7 Saskatchewan Huskies. The Vikes are currently 6-2-0 in the Canada West and boast a 4-0 record at home, while the Cougars are 4-4-1 and the Huskies are 6-1-2.

The Vikes offense exploded last weekend with seven different scorers each tallying a goal in the 7-1 victory over Lethbridge on Oct. 4. The home side wasted no time getting on the board with third-year midfielder Carly Branion-Calles scoring just three minutes into the opening frame. Last year's Canada West scoring leader Emma Greig netted her first of two goals in the weekend Friday, converting a diving header to notch her first of the season. The Vikes dominated ball possession as well, outshooting the Pronghorns 20-2 through 90 minutes of play.
 
Despite a closer 2-1 final score, Saturday's match against the Calgary Dinos saw the Vikes once again outshooting their opponents by a 24-4 margin, with Greig netting her second of the season. Second-year striker Sarah Douglas impressed with a beautiful setup to fifth-year captain Jaqueline Harrison who finished the play with a game-winning goal.
 
This weekend's tilt sees the Vikes face off against the Regina Cougars, currently seventh in the conference, who have scored 11 goals while allowing 20 against. The Cougars are led by Meagan Cormier, who has tallied six goals and one assist this season and is tied for third in Canada West goal scoring.
 
The Vikes will face their ultimate task the night following, Oct. 12, hosting Saskatchewan in a battle for playoff points. If both teams win Friday, the fourth-place Vikes will continue to sit two points behind the Huskies with one game in hand.  They will also have to contend with another scoring threat in Jenelle Zapski, who is tied with Cougars striker Meagan Cormier for third in scoring this season. Last weekend the Huskies were served their first loss of the season as the No. 2 Alberta Pandas edged Saskatchewan 1-0.

This weekend the Vikes will look to continue their undefeated home streak first hosting the Cougars, Oct. 11, and then the Huskies, Oct. 12. Both games will take place at 5 p.m. at Centennial Stadium and will be streamed live at http://uvic.canadawest.tv
