The Vikes are coming off the heels of a 33-point game for senior
Terrell Evans who also led the Vikes in scoring throughout their 5-2 pre-season record. Fourth-year
Chris McLaughlin has posted 29 points so far in the season, while rookie point guard
Marcus Tibbs trails by four points. All three have been consistent starters averaging more than 23 minutes played per game.
Â
To date six-foot-ten post McLaughlin leads the team with 24 rebounds, while Evans has 18. Tibbs on the other hand has made the most from distance putting in six-for-ten from beyond the arc. Evans is also seven-for-ten from the line.
Â
The Vikes men are first in the Canada West for scoring defense, averaging 52 points per game, and top the conference in field goal percent defense at 33.9 per cent. The Vikes are fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1), while the visiting Cascades are the current Canada West leaders with a ratio of 1.9.
Vikes head coach
Craig Beaucamp enters the 2013-14 season as the reigning two-time Canada West Coach of the Year after last year's sixth-place finish at the CIS Final 8. Beaucamp also boasts depth down his bench from fifth-year
Ryan Erikson, starting guard
Reiner Theil and second-year
Kyle Peterson.Â
Â
The Cascades are led by Kevon Parchmen, who kick-started his team to a 79-69 win over Lethbridge on Nov. 1 with a 28-point game. Parchment was 50 per cent from the three-point arc and added nine rebounds, while three other Cascades hit double digits. Parchmen finished the weekend with 40 points total, while Klaus Figueredo had a 35-point weekend and Manjodh Dulay led Fraser Valley to the 71-56 home victory over Calgary with 23 points on the night.
Â
This season the Cascades are without a pack of leaders that guided the team to a berth at the 2012 CIS championship in Halifax. Coach Adam Friesen enters only his second year and will rely heavily on second-year Parchment as well as fifth-year guard Figueredo and second-year guard Aaron McGowan.
