The University of Victoria Vikes men's rugby team overcame the absence of several starting team members and difficult weather conditions to pick up their first BCRU win of 2014, defeating Meraloma Rugby Club 31-5. The Vikes also ended a five-game losing skid in the process.

The Vikes received tries from players Nathan Stewart, Crosby Stewart, Doug Fraser, David Morgan and Remi Anctil, while Fergus Hall added two conversions and a penalty kick. It was Hall's first game back after missing four games due to injury.
 
After putting together a solid opening half of play and scoring all their points by halftime, the Victoria squad had a shaky second half that saw multiple penalties called against them. Despite a shift in momentum in the second frame of play that favoured Meraloma,a strong defensive showing across the board by the Vikes maintained a comfortable lead. The victory improves the Vikes season record to 5-5.
 
"Merlaoma woke up and dominated much of second half today," said Vikes head coach Doug Tate. "But exceptional defense allowed us to win with comfortable score. We will have to play better vs CW next week."
 
Meraloma's loss drops them to 0-11 on the season, while the Vikes climb to an even .500 record. The win puts Victoria in a tie with UBCOB Ravens at 24 points, while Burnaby Lake Rugby club continues to reign atop the table with 49 points, having conceded just one loss this season.
