VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes women's soccer team finished their weekend sweep with another 1-0 win, this time over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops on Sept. 20. The Vikes continue their undefeated record and now sit at 3-0-1, while the WolfPack are now winless at 0-4.
 
The Vikes dominated every aspect of the game except for the score line but the three points was earned thanks to a great finish from fourth-year striker Emma Greig. The Vikes out-shot the WolfPack 16-9 and had 12 corner kicks to Thompson Rivers' one.
 
WolfPack keeper Emily Edmundson made seven saves in the game, while the young Thompson Rivers squad did well to hold their own.
 
"We responded well after yesterday's performance and we pretty much kept the game in check," said Tracy David, Vikes women's head coach. "We controlled the momentum of the game and it was just too bad as we had a lot of chances and didn't finish."
 
The Vikes had 10 of their 12 corner kicks come in the opening half but were unable to generate anything in the box. Forward Sarah Douglas and midfielder Jaclyn Sawicki each had early shots on goal that were steered away by Edmundson.
 
Greig got the visitors on the board in the 39^th minute thanks to a well-paced ball from defender Cassie Dennis. The fifth year threaded the needle with a great through ball that split the WolfPack defence. Greig made no mistake burying the ball low to the back post from 20 yards out.
 
The Vikes clung to Greig's goal, 1-0 ahead, entering half time.
 
Possession continued in favour of Victoria in the second half with the exception of one quality opportunity for the WolfPack.
 
In the 48^th minute Thompson Rivers had their lone corner kick opportunity taken by Kelsey Martin. Martin's cross was on target for the near post and some how it squandered past the Vikes' back line. Taylor Miller was on the other end of it but her shot was cleared off the goal line by Vikes defender Maryse Reichgeld.
 
From there, the Vikes continued to show their possession skills, moving the ball and generating dangerous attack.

"I was happier today with both strikers, Sarah and Emma, because they looked to shoot at goal a lot more today compared to yesterday," added David. "Also our back four played really solid today and that was Samantha Lee, Elise Butler, Maryse Reichgeld and Lindsay Machin."

Greig's goal stood as the lone tally in the match and the Vikes finished up their weekend with their second-straight 1-0 victory.
