VICTORIA, B.C. - The University of Victoria Vikes women's soccer team return home to Centennial Stadium this weekend, Oct. 2-3, for home games against the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Cougars. The Vikes are riding the momentum from a two-game road sweep of the Thompson Rivers Wolf Pack and UBC Okanagan Heat 3-0 and 5-1, respectively, this past weekend, Sept. 26-27. The Vikes now find themselves on a four-game win streak that stretches back to their 6-0 home win over the UNBC Timberwolves on Sept. 18.

The Vikes' offence was on show during their four-game win streak, out-scoring their opponents 17-2 and helping their opening 0-1-2 start where they only scored one goal. The Vikes currently lead the Canada West in goals for, with 18, while conceding a Canada West fourth-best total of only six.
That goal-scoring streak will be put to the test, however, when the Saskatchewan Huskies visit Centennial Stadium on Oct. 2. The Huskies are 5-1 on the season and sit tied for first in the Canada West East division with the Calgary Dinos. The Huskies have scored 13 goals and conceded seven, and are currently on a three-game win streak.
Leading Huskies' point scorers Kelly Cerkwoniak and Erica Hindmarsh have directly contributed to nine of those Huskies' goals. Fifth-year midfielder Cerkwoniak has scored four and added one assist while third-year midfielder Hindmarsh has four helpers and one goal through all six games for the Huskies this season. Defender Meagan Manson had been able to help out in both departments so far this season, adding three goals, including two in a 3-2 win over Winnipeg on Sept. 13.
The Vikes haven't met the Huskies and Cougars in Canada West action since the 2013-14 season when they shut out their Saskatchewan counterparts 4-0 and 1-0, respectively, in a home series at Centennial Stadium Oct. 5 and 11. Greig added a goal in each of the victories for the Vikes.
The Regina Cougars haven't faired as well as their provincial counterpart Huskies, but still remain in contention for the fourth and final playoff spot in the west with a record of 1-3-2 – three points off the Lethbridge Pronghorns. The Cougars have managed only three goals in their first two games with two of those coming through third-year midfielder Daniela Castro.
First-year goalkeeper Savannah Williams seems to have taken the reigns this year as the go-to keeper for the Cougars, playing just over 423 minutes through the first six games for the Cougars. Fourth-year goalkeeper Kacey McFee has started two games for the Cougars, playing judt under 112 minutes, conceding four to Williams' five.
