Tale of the Weekend
There will be a battle for Canada West supremacy when the Vikes women's soccer team travels to the lower mainland this weekend, to play the Trinity Western University Spartans and the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades.
The Vikes will take on the Spartans in Langley, B.C. with kick off scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and then will be in Abbotsford the very next day to play the Cascades at 5:30 p.m.
UVic dropped the last contest it played against the Spartans, falling 1-0 to TWU in Victoria.
The Cascades will be looking for some revenge when they play the Vikes. The last time these two teams met it was UVic beating Fraser Valley in penalty kicks to book themselves a spot in the Canada West Select Six and end the Cascades season.
Last Time Out
It was a successful last weekend for the Vikes. They picked up back-to-back victories over the Grant MacEwan Griffins and the Mount Royal Cougars. The wins vaulted the Vikes up the CIS national rankings, moving them from number 10 to number seven.
Trinity Western travelled to the Prairies and won both games they played in Canada's breadbasket, beating the University of Saskatchewan 4-0 and the University of Regina 1-0. The Spartans currently sit atop the Canada West standings, just two points ahead of the second place Vikes.
Fraser Valley also travelled to Saskatchewan, where they tied the University of Regina 1-1 and beat the University of Saskatchewan 4-0.
