VICTORIA - A defensive showdown ended in a scoreless draw on Friday night in Langley, B.C., as the Vikes held off the Trinity Western Spartans to stay undefeated through four games this season.
The tie moves UVic's record to 2-0-2 on the year while Trinity Western is now 3-0-1. The two team's sit one and two atop the Pacific Division.
"Our defence has been good—really, really good," said David. "
Lindsay Machin was the MVP of the game—she was fantastic and helped stop everything. Our back four was really solid and our defence as a team was really solid. Now we have to work on our offence and being dangerous."
Trinity Western goalkeeper Ally Williamson didn't have to make a save on the night while
Meaghan Storie was forced to make just three saves. But the difference in possession numbers was made clear through shot attempt totals, as the Spartans fired off 13 shots while the Vikes managed just three.
Still, it's hard to argue with an undefeated record five games into a relatively short season.
"Any time you can be undefeated it helps your confidence," said David. "But we still have to start winning games and beating teams. We have to start scoring goals."
The Vikes will have a chance to get their scoring when they take on the Fraser Valley Cascades Saturday at 5:30 p.m. on canadawest.tv.
The Cascades also played to a draw on Friday, scoring a pair in a 2-2 draw with the defending national champions in the UBC Thunderbirds. A breakout against a team like Fraser Valley, a team that occupies fourth place in the Canada West standings, would be a huge boost for a UVic team looking for offensive inspiration.
