Tale of the Weekend
VICTORIA – The two teams currently tied for first place in the Canada West conference of women's soccer are set on a collision course for this weekend when the UVic Vikes travel to Vancouver to take on the UBC T-Birds.
With both teams sitting at identical records of 7-1-1 the game, taking place Friday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m., will go a long way in determining potential playoff seeding with just five games left in the regular season.
The Vikes have already gotten the better of the T-Birds once this season when the then-unranked Vikes upset the No. 3 ranked T-Birds 1-0 to start the season in Victoria.
Defence was the story of the day in that Vikes victory as
Puck Louwes recorded an 11-save shutout while
Kiara Kilbey scored the lone goal of the match.
Last Time Out
Stretching their winning streak to six with a pair of wins against the UNBC Timberwolves and the MacEwan Griffins, the Vikes picked up wins of 3-0 and 1-0 respectively.

Caitlin Millham scored the only goal of the match against MacEwan.
UBC failed to win a game for the first time since that season-opening loss in Victoria last weekend. They took care of the Griffins 3-0 on Friday but could only manage a 1-1 tie with the Timberwolves on Sunday.
By the Numbers
523: Stretching back to the 13' mark in their Sep. 15 game against Manitoba, Louwes and the Vikes have a shutout streak that is over five games long.
11: The number of goals Jasmin Dhanda has scored this season for UBC, the most in the conference.
3: In Dhanda, Aman Shergill and Margaret Hadley, the T-Birds have three of the top-four leaders in points in the conference. The only person breaking up those three is Kilbey.

"We understand fully well the calibre of teams that we are facing to end our season, so we can't do anything but take it one game at a time. We are coming along nicely but we still have to take points from some teams that are perennial favourites."
On the team's earlier game against UBC
"We were really resilient on the day and worked very hard. I don't think we exerted as much pressure on them as we should have. We have learned a lot in the last five weeks so I'm expecting a better performance from us coming into this game."
"We have a had a good run of results so our team is feeling confident going in, which is always good when you are playing a team like UBC."
"We are going to have to make sure that we don't concede a goal early because UBC scores in first ten minutes often and when a team can do that it takes all the pressure off of them. Our goal is to keep them off the scoreboard and then we have to look to score ourselves."
