VICTORIA – The UVic Vikes men's basketball limited the Trinity Western Spartans to just 36 points through three quarters en route to an 85-62 victory in Langley, B.C. on Nov. 10.
 
"We weren't happy with the way it finished in the fourth but we were really solid through three quarters," said Vikes head coach Craig Beaucamp. "We started slowly which wasn't great, but we did a decent job on the defensive end for three quarters at least."
 
Second-year Vike Jason Scully has a breakout performance on the night as the forward from Victoria went 9-for-13 from the field to record 21 points in the game.
 
"He was attacking well," said Beaucamp. "Jason is a tough match up when he is attacking because he can shoot the ball and he's athletic enough to get to the rim. I thought he had his best game as a Vike."
 
Justin Kinnear added 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting while Taylor Montgomery-Stinson continued his hot start to the season with 14 points, three steals and two rebounds in the game.
 
It was really a full team effort that got it done on the night for the Vikes as nine different players scored and 12 Vikes saw action with the game well out of reach by the half time whistle.
 
"We will need that to continue," said Beaucamp of his team's depth of scoring. "It was nice early in the second half to make some shots and get some easy baskets."
 
The Vikes pulled down 50 rebounds in the contest compared to the Spartans 38 and recorded seven fewer turnovers, as the team led by as many as 29 points in the contest.
 
A close first quarter that saw the teams mired in a defensive duel ended with the score 15-11. The Vikes then turned up the defensive pressure even higher in the second quarter, limiting the Spartans to just eight points in the frame to take a 31-19 lead into the halftime break.
 
UVic stretched that lead to 55-36 after three quarters before both teams used their bench heavily in a high-scoring fourth quarter that saw the Vikes score just six points less in the frame than the Spartans had in the previous three.
 
With the win, UVic moves to 2-3 in Canada West play while the Spartans drop to 0-5 and are the lone team in the conference without a win so far this season.

These same two teams will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 11 for a game that starts at 7 p.m.
