PREVIEW: Vikes head out the road for games against the Heat and WolfPack

Sep. 23-24: Victoria women's soccer vs. UBC Okanagan Heat (Kelowna, BC) & Thompson Rivers WolfPack (Kamloops, BC)

Tale of the Weekend

VICTORIA – The UVic Vikes women's soccer team is back on the road this weekend as they travel to the Interior of the Province for games in both Kelowna and Kamloops.

Taking on the UBC Okanagan Heat in Kelowna, Sep. 23 at 1:00 p.m., and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Sep. 24 at 12:00 p.m., the Vikes will be looking to strengthen their grip on a spot near the top of the Pacific Division standings.

The Vikes picked up a sweep of the WolfPack and Heat during a home stand in early October last season. Kiara Kilbey and Emily Lieuwen both scored in a 4-0 win over the WolfPack, while Natalie Cavallin notched a goal in the team's 3-1 win over the Heat.

Last Time Out

Two wins were the result of some outstanding offensive pressure as well as some solid defending from the Vikes last weekend. A 3-1 victory over the Manitoba Bisons was followed by a 1-0 win over the Winnipeg Wesmen. Kilbey, Georgia Bignold, Rachel Baird and Kyra Teetzen all scored for the Vikes over the weekend.

Both the Heat and the WolfPack picked up their first points of the season last weekend during a road trip to Saskatchewan.

The Heat tied Regina 2-2 before losing 5-0 to Saskatchewan the next day, while the WolfPack were blanked 3-0 by the Huskies but managed to beat the Cougars 1-0.

By The Numbers

25: The Heat and WolfPack have allowed a combined 25 goals this season.
3: Kiara Kilbey has scored three goals so far this season, tied for third in the conference.
2: Puck Louwes and the Vikes defence have recorded two clean sheets through five games, the second most in the conference.
