KAMLOOPS- The University of Victoria men's basketball team were unable to secure a second win in Kamloops over the weekend. After winning the Friday night game, the Vikes fell to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack by a score of 80-70 on Nov. 10.Â
Â
The loss drops the Vikes to a 2-4 record in the Canada West conference.Â
Â
"We expected they would have a good bounce back game tonight," said Vikes head coach Craig Beauchamp. "I thought we didn't play well today. They got on a bit of a run in the third quarter and we couldn't stop the bleeding."
Â
Mason Loewen led the Vikes in scoring by recording 26 points to go along with four rebounds.
Jordan Charles was an assist away from a double-double finishing with 21 points and nine rebounds on the night.Â
Â
Victoria found themselves in a tight match, down just three points at half time but a 33 point third quarter by the WolfPack gave Thompson Rivers enough of a lead to secure the eventual 80-70 victory over the Vikes. The visitors pushed back with a 28 point fourth quarter performance but it was not enough to complete the comeback.Â
Â
"We come out with a lot of energy in the third quarter and were able to outlast Victoria," said WolfPack head coach Scott Clark. "They put up a heck of a fight in the final quarter so we feel fortunate to have the result go our way tonight."
Â
The win levels Thompson River's record to 2-2 this season.Â
The Vikes will travel to Alberta next weekend for another two game weekend series against the Calgary Dinos on Nov. 16-17. The games will be available live on pay-per-view atÂ
