VICTORIA- The University of Victoria Vikes men's rugby team cruised to a 47-10 victory over their cross-town rivals from James Bay on Nov. 3 at MacDonald Park.
 
Vikes' number-8 Nicholas Carson touched the ball down three times in the match, propelling Victoria to a much needed win in the BC Premier League standings.
 
James Bay entered the match three points ahead of Victoria in the standings but with the Vikes earning the bonus point victory, they now sit two points ahead of James Bay with 12.
 
Carson scored his first two tries on the day early in the match. With Gradyn Bowd converting both Carson tries, the Vikes enjoyed an early 14-0 lead before hitting the mid way mark of the first half.
 
Bowd would break the defensive line of James Bay deep in the Vikes own territory and send hooker Tyler Rockwell away for a third Victoria try in the opening frame. The bays would steal a Vikes lineout just before half time and score in the opposite corner to trail 19-5 at the break.
 
Carson ran a great support line off a Vikes maul to touch down his third try of the game to restore Victoria's 19-point lead. 
 
Bowd would break the bays defensive line for a second time, setting up a series of offloads which led to a Crosby Stewart try. 
 
The Vikes would add two more tries before time was up, one from Kapi Vataiki and another from Gabe Casey with the final score reading 47-10 in favour of the Vikes. 
 
Next up, Victoria will take on the undefeated Castaway Wanderers in a rare Friday night game on Nov. 9 at Centennial Stadium. Kick off at 7:00 p.m.
