Vancouver, B.C. – Unable to overcome a second-half surge by the home team, the University of Victoria men's basketball team fell to the University of British Columbia on the road, 94-76, Oct. 30.
1st Quarter – UBC 24, UVic 22
- UBC would start hot, taking an 8-2 lead before the Vikes could cut it back to three, 10-7.
- Scott Kellum pulled the Vikes even with a three-pointer, 19-19, with three minutes to play in the opening frame.
- The 'Birds would sink the final basket of the opening 10 for a two-point lead.
2nd Quarter – UVic 45, UBC 41
- Keeping pace, the Vikes and Thunderbirds traded points to stay even throughout the quarter.
- The Vikes broke away for their biggest lead of game with 1:30 left on the clock, coming by way of Elias Ralph three and Matthew Ellis layup to end the half.
3rd Quarter – UBC 68, UVic 58
- Momentum shifting towards the Thunderbirds, the hosts were able force Victoria stops and respond with points of their own to take the lead.
- UBC outscored UVic 27-13 in the third quarter.
4th Quarter – UBC 94, UVic 76
- Pulling away, UBC opened the final frame with an 11-0 run to take a 76-58 lead, increasing their lead to as much as 21 during the final quarter.
- Unable to find a response, the Vikes fell to UBC to end the weekend.
WORTH NOTING
- Three Vikes finished with double-digit scoring totals in Ellis (20), Diego Maffia (16), and Ralph (11).
- Scott Kellum had a team-high nine assists to go with nine points on the night.
- Dominick Oliveri led the Vikes with seven rebounds.
- The Vikes move to 1-1 on the season with the setback.
