Vikes fall to Spartans

Langley, B.C. – Suffering its first setback of the season, the No. 10-ranked University of Victoria women's soccer team fell to the host, No. 2-ranked Trinity Western University, 3-0, Oct. 8.

HOW IT HAPPENED
61st Minute – TWU 1, UVic 0
  • Breaking the stalemate, Trinity Western was able to get on the board first.
66th Minute – TWU 2, UVic 0
  • The Spartans managed to double their lead five minutes later.
72nd Minute – TWU 3, UVic 0
  • Adding one final goal on the night, TWU found the back of the net once again.
WORTH NOTING
  • The Vikes were only able to fire off two shots during the game, compared to the Spartans' 15.
  • Despite the low shot count for UVic, the Vikes were able to make crucial saves and stops in the first 60 minutes to keep the game within reach.
  • In her six-save night, Kayley Lidstone and the Vikes' defence extended her shutout length to 596 minutes before conceding a goal in the second half.

Langley, B.C. – An early second-half goal from undefeated Trinity Western University was the difference-maker as the University of Victoria women's soccer team fell to the Spartans, 1-0, Oct. 9.

HOW IT HAPPENED
64th Minute – TWU 1, UVic 0
  • On their second corner attempt of the game, TWU capitalised on a scramble in the box to net the game-winner.
WORTH NOTING
  • The two sides finished even in shots taken, at seven, with the Vikes holding the 4-to-3 advantage in shots on goal. Victoria's Lauren Parr led all players in the match with four total shots, three of which were on target.
  • After not recording a save in the Oct. 8 matchup, the Vikes forced the TWU goalkeeper to four saves in today's match.
  • Encountering its first two setbacks of the season, No. 10-ranked UVic now sits at 4-2-2 on the season, while No. 2-ranked Trinity Western remains undefeated at 10-0-0.
