Langley, B.C. – The University of Victoria men's basketball team cruised to two wins over Trinity Western University, Nov. 12-13. Claiming a 90-77 win Friday, the Vikes posted a 106-69 decision Saturday.
Game one: Victoria 90, Trinity Western 77

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter – UVic 20, TWU 16
- Matthew Ellis would put the first points of the game on the board, just over a minute into the game.
- The Vikes and Spartans would trade baskets, with no sides going ahead by more than three for most of the quarter.
- UVic would take the largest lead of the game to that point at four points, 20-16, with 41 second remaining on a basket from Elias Ralph.
2nd Quarter – UVic 40, TWU 32
- The Vikes would extend their lead to 10 in the first three minutes, 28-18, on two three's from Scott Kellum and a two-pointer from Dominick Oliveri.
- Trinity Western would slowly chip away at the deficit, pulling within five, 32-27, with just over four minutes remaining in the half.
- However, the Vikes would jump back in front, taking a 40-30 lead in the final minute. The Spartans would make the last shot of the second quarter to make it an eight-point game, 40-32, at the half.
3rd Quarter – UVic 58, TWU 56
- UVic seemed to control the first half of the third quarter, keeping a comfortable cushion between themselves and the Spartans, not letting their opponents within six.
- However, Trinity Western once again started a comeback attempt, and went on a 9-1 run in the final two minutes to pull within two, 58-56.
4th Quarter – UVic 90, TWU 77
- Back-to-back three's by TWU would tie it up, 64-64, with just under eight minutes to play.
- After a couple back-and-forth possessions, the Vikes began to separate, eventually holding an 83-71 lead with just under four minutes to play.
- The Vikes then cruised to the end, taking the 90-77 win.
WORTH NOTING
- The Vikes saw six different double-digit scoring performances, led by Kellum with 21. Kellum made four three-pointers and seven field goals, both of which led the team.
- Ellis and Ralph each added 12 points, while Oliveri notched 11 and Ethan Boag picked up 10 to round out the double-digit performances.
- Oliveri added 13 rebounds to his performance for his second double-double of the year.
- The Vikes are now 2-0 against the Spartans this season, after claiming a 104-66 win, Oct. 29.
Game two: Victoria 106, Trinity Western 69

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter – UVic 28, TWU 14
- Going basket-for-basket to open the contest, the Vikes and Spartans were tied, 6-6, with six minutes remaining in the first.
- UVic would then begin to separate, posting the next 10 points before the Spartans could answer for the 16-6 lead.
- A three-pointer from Scott Kellum and jumper from Jaden Touchie would give the Vikes the 28-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
2nd Quarter – UVic 54, TWU 35
- A dunk from Sergio Pereira gave the Vikes their first 20-point lead of the contest, 40-19, with seven minutes to play in the half.
- UVic would be able to keep Trinity Western at a distance, not allowing the home side to come within 14 points during the second quarter.
- A dunk from Ethan Boag would keep the Vikes' lead over 20 with 25 seconds to play, but a basket from the Spartans would see UVic's lead at 19, 54-35, at the half.
3rd Quarter – UVic 86, TWU 54
- Continuing to make shots and get defensive stops, the Vikes would take a 30-point lead, 84-54, with 1:30 left in the third quarter.
- Matthew Ellis would extend the Vikes' lead to 32 with a bucket in the final seconds of the third.
4th Quarter – UVic. 106, TWU 69
- Coasting to the win, the Vikes would hold a lead as big as 32 points during the fourth quarter, coming with 5:30 left to play and a score of 98-56 on the board.
- The Spartans would sink the final basket of the contest, but the Vikes would walk away with the win, 106-69.
WORTH NOTING
- The Vikes broke 100 points for the second time this season, previously doing so against TWU in the season-opener, Oct. 29 (104 points).
- Kellum led the Vikes with 22 points, adding seven rebounds and two assists on the night.
- Boag, Ellis, and Diego Maffia each added over 10 points, at 16, 13 and 13, respectively.
- UVic improves to 5-1 on the season with the win.
