VICTORIA – In its final tune-up before the Canada West Championships, the University of Victoria swimming team raced in the Bennett Cup, Nov. 12-14, at Commonwealth Place.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Friday

• The Vikes finished 1-2 in both the prelims and finals of the 100 fly, beginning with Ethan Jensen taking first in the prelims at 56.80, followed by Jacob Rambo in second at 57.70. In the finals, Rambo took first, improving to 56.60, while Cameron Dickson took second with a 57.31 swim, improved from his 58.93 prelim performance.
• Colton Stevens won the 200 IM finals, clocking in at 2:09.11, improving five seconds from his fourth-place, 2:14.92 showing in prelims.
• Sophia Brunoro picked up a top-three finish for the Vikes, taking third in both the prelims and finals of the 200 back with a 2:27.63 prelim time and 2:25.78 swim in the finals.
• Picking up a third-place finish in the 100 free prelims with a time of 52.66, Padric Mckervill improved one spot and finished second in the finals with a 52.18 showing.

Saturday

• Lauren Crisp took the top spot in the 100 back prelims with a 1:04.05 performance, and defended her first-place finish with a win in the finals, clocking in at 1:03.59.
• Lauren Taylor secured wins in the 50 and 200 free in the finals, going 26.94 and 2:06.11 for the event titles.
• Sophia Brunoro and Sophie Tarrant joined Taylor for the podium sweep in the 200 free, finishing with times of 2:07.45 and 2:07.84, respectively.
• In the 200 free on the men's side, Elijah Agostinelli Stull and Jacob Rambo secured the top two places for the Vikes in the prelims and finals. Agostinelli Stull finished first in prelims (1:52.84) and second in the finals (1:53.28) while Rambo grabbed second in the prelims (1:54.35) and first in the finals (1:52.34).
• Sweeping the 200 free podium like the women's side, Padric Mckervill clocked in at 1:53.89 for the third-place finish in the finals.
• Jamie Hellard added a top-spot finish for the Vikes, taking the 100 breast crown with a 1:12.87 performance.

Sunday

• Mareya Valeva and Robyn Nakano finished 1-2 in the 50 fly, clocking in at 29.29 and 29.41, respectively.
• The women's side saw a second 1-2 finish in Amanda McCallum and Lauren Crisp, who took first and second with 30.06 and 30.10 swims in the 50 back, respectively.
• Maxwell Fang tied for first in the 50 back, finishing with a time of 27.07.
• The Vikes took the top spot in both 50 breast events, with Jamie Hellard (33.25) taking the women's title and Ethan Hemeon (29.79) taking the men's title.
• Elijah Agostinelli Stull and William Risk finished back-to-back in the 400 free, with Agostinelli Stull taking first at 3:59.31, with Risk in second with a 4:04.95 performance.
