Edmonton, Alta. – Picking up three medals on day one, the University of Victoria swimming teams opened competition at the Canada West championships, Nov. 26.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the preliminaries, the Vikes posted 16 entries to the finals in six individual events between the men and women.
- Sophie Tarrant claimed the first medal of the championships for the Vikes, a bronze in the 50 breast. Her 32.21 time also met the U SPORTS qualification standards.
- In the 50 back, the Vikes narrowly missed the podium, with Lauren Crisp (29.50) and Jacob Rambo (25.76) each taking fourth place.
- For Rambo, his 25.76 marked not only a career-best, but the first U SPORTS qualifying time of his career.
- Padric Mckervill's 24.80 performance in the 50 fly matched the UVic school record, tying Alec Page's record from Jan. 25, 2013.
