Libke's late goal pushes Vikes past Cascades

ABBOTSFORD – Playing in what both sides described as "monsoon" conditions with pouring rain from the opening to final whistles, the University of Victoria men's soccer team pushed through the challenging conditions to defeat the University of the Fraser Valley, 1-0, Sept. 17.
HOW IT HAPPENED
85th Minute – UVic 1, UFV 0
- On a corner kick by Mark Kaiser in the final minutes of play, defender Evan Libke found the ball in the scramble and sent it past the UFV goalkeeper for the game-winner.
WORTH NOTING
- With the win, UVic improved to 2-0-1 on the season.
- Both sides finished with nine shots on the night, however, the Vikes held the edge in shots on goal, 4-to-3.
- Victoria goalkeeper Harjot Nijjar posted his first clean sheet of the 2021 season in the victory, posting two saves during the win.
Nijjar shuts out UFV as Vikes draw with Cascades

Harjot Nijjar shut out the University of the Fraser Valley for the second time as the two sides ended their Sunday matchup in a 0-0 draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nijjar posted three saves on 10 total shots from UFV, on the way to keeping the Cascades off the board.
- The Vikes totaled just four shots during the match, and were not able to put any in the back of the net to earn the win.
WORTH NOTING
- Nijjar shutout the Cascades for the second-straight game after holding the hosts scoreless in the Vikes' 1-0 win, Sept. 17.
- Will Adams and Isaac Koch were the only UVic players to register shots on goal during the match.
- After two weekends of Canada West play, the Vikes remain unbeaten with a 2-0-2 record.

Victoria returns home to host Thompson Rivers University Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25, at Centennial Stadium. The matches are set to take place at 7:15 p.m. each night.
