VICTORIA - Completing a dominating, 43-10 victory over the No. 8-ranked University of Calgary, the No. 10 University of Victoria women's rugby team secured back-to-back wins in the Jenny Vincent Memorial Game for the first time in the 11-year history of the event. After winning the inaugural match, the Dinos claimed the next eight, until the Vikes put a stop to the run with a win in 2019.
NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
- Today, Sept. 30, 2021, marked the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
- Also known as Orange Shirt Day, it is a national movement that brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the spirit of hope and reconciliation, and honours former residential school students, their families and communities.
- Prior to the match, both teams and those in attendance participated in a moment of silence to honour the victims and survivors of the residential schools, their families, and communities.
ABOUT JENNY VINCENT
- A pioneer in women's rugby, Jenny Vincent guided UVic through its inaugural season of CIS (now U SPORTS) play.
- Relocating to Calgary, Vincent worked tirelessly to elevate the Dinos' club rugby team to a varsity one, and led Calgary through its first season of Canada West play in 2008.

2nd Minute - UVic 5, CAL 0
- After receiving a pass, Larah Wright took off down the left side of the field, shaking off the Dinos' efforts to tackle her on the way to the end zone to put the Vikes on the board.
14th Minute - UVic 12, CAL 0
- Making her season debut after playing for Team Canada at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Tournament, Renee Gonzalez barreled up the left side of Wallace Field to the in-goal area for the Vikes' second try of the day.
- In her first of the evening, Kira Peary made the conversion attempt.
17th Minute - UVic 12, CAL 7
- Putting up their first points of the match, the Dinos scored their first try and conversion to get on the board.
25th Minute - UVic 12, CAL 10
- A successful penalty goal attempt by Calgary pulled the Dinos within two.
34th Minute - UVic 17, CAL 10
- The Vikes forward pack powdered through the Calgary defence and over the goal line with Ada Okonkwo carrying the ball, ending the Dinos' scoring run and extending the Vikes' lead.
53rd Minute - UVic 24, CAL 10
- Continuing to showcase the forward pack's strength, the Vikes' front drove Chloe Hill-Huse over the try line to open the second-half scoring.
- Peary's conversion was also successful for her second of the day.
60th Minute - UVic 31, CAL 10
- Similar to UVic's try just minutes earlier, the Vikes' forward pack pushed through the Dinos to make way for Zoe Williams to find the in-goal area for her first try of the match.
- Completing the seven-point scoring effort, Alexie Pusch put the ball through the uprights for a successful conversion.
65th Minute - UVic 38, CAL 10
- In her second try of the evening, Wright broke through tackle attempts by Calgary on her run to bring the ball over the goal line and continue to cement the Vikes' lead.
- Pusch secured back-to-back successful conversions with her kick.
79th Minute - UVic 43, CAL 10
- Adding one more try before the final whistle, Chanelle Edwards-Challenger and the Vikes' forward pack powered their way past the Dinos and into the end zone one final time.
WORTH NOTING
- Both teams entered the match ranked by U SPORTS, with Calgary at No. 8 and Victoria at No. 10.
- The Vikes' seven tries are the most they have recorded in a single match so far this season.
- The win moves UVic to 2-1 on the season, while the Dinos drop to 1-1.
