Women's soccer drops heartbreaker in shootout to WolfPack

Kamloops, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's soccer team's 2022 season came to heartbreaking end after falling to Thompson Rivers University in a shootout, 1-1 (2-4 SO), Oct. 22 at Hillside Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
37th Minute – UVic 1, TRU 0
  • Trinity Kettyls heaved the ball up the field to Rheana Desjardins at the top of the 18-yard box, who shook off her defenders with a couple quick dribbles and shot the ball to the top left corner of the net to put the Vikes in front.
87th Minute – UVic 1, TRU 1
  • The WolfPack equalized with three minutes to play in regulation.
Shootout – TRU 3, UVic 2
  • Erin Jensen and Isabella Paccani each scored in the shootout for the Vikes, but the WolfPack keeper was able to make two saves to win the game for the home side.
WORTH NOTING
  • After double overtime, the Vikes and WolfPack finished even in shots taken with 17 each. TRU held the 8-6 edge in shots on goal, while Victoria had the 7-5 edge in corner kick opportunities.
  • Kayley Lidstone recorded seven saves for the Vikes in 110 minutes of play.
  • Jensen led the Vikes with three shots on the night, putting one on frame.
  • The Vikes close the season with a 4-7-4 record, while the WolfPack continue postseason play and move to 7-6-2 with the win.
