Swim heads to Lethbridge for Canada West Championships

VICTORIA - The University of Victoria swimming team heads to Lethbridge, Alta. for the Canada West Swimming Championships, hosted by the University of Lethbridge, Nov. 25-27, at the Max Bell Regional Aquatic Centre.

NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes enter the conference championship meet ranked in the U SPORTS Top 10 poll, with the men ranked ninth and women ranked fifth in the country.
  • Last in action at the UBC Colleges Cup, Nov. 4-5, both the men's and women's teams finished fourth against primarily Canada West competition.
  • Yasmin Perry set a new school record in the 50 fly at the Colleges Cup, clocking in at 27.13 to win the event and replace Mackenzie Downing's 15-year old record (27.19).
  • Also setting a new school record at UBC was Padric Mckervill, who swam the 100 fly in 53.78 to best the Vikes record he previously held (55.16).
  • Erin Epp picked up the win in the 400 IM (4:48.09) at the Colleges Cup to round out the notable performances from the Vikes.
  • At the 2021 Canada West Championships, the Vikes finished third as teams on both the men's and women's side.
  • The Vikes claimed seven medals at last year's conference championships: one bronze and two silvers by Sophie Tarrant (50, 100 and 200 breast), one silver by Lauren Crisp (200 back), one silver by Padric Mckervill (200 fly), one silver by the men's team in the 4x200 free relay (Agostinelli Stull, Fang, Mckervill, Rambo), and one silver by the women's team in the 4x200 free relay (Tarrant, McCallum, Taylor, Brunoro).
