Basketball hits the road for final weekend of Canada West regular season

Kelowna and Prince George, B.C. – Concluding the 2021-22 Canada West regular season, the University of Victoria men's and women's basketball teams hit the road for a split weekend at UBC Okanagan and the University of Northern British Columbia, Feb. 24-26.

NEWS & NOTES
  • Both Victoria basketball teams will close out the Canada West regular season this weekend at UBCO, Feb. 24, and at UNBC, Feb. 26.
  • The Vikes' men's basketball team hits the road on a quick turnaround, after defeating Thompson Rivers University, 84-59, Tuesday night in CARSA Performance Gym. The win moves the Vikes to 15-1 on the season and first place in the Canada West west division.
  • UVic's men's squad also holds a No. 5 national ranking from U SPORTS in its latest top-10 poll, released Feb. 22.
  • On the women's side, the Vikes hold a 9-7 mark after falling in three-straight games to UFV, Feb. 12-19, and sit in third place in the conference west division.
  • In Kelowna, B.C, the Vikes will face off against a 7-10 Heat women's team and 3-14 men's team from UBCO. In Prince George, B.C., UVic will take on a 7-8 women's side and 6-11 men's squad from UNBC.
  • Scott Kellum became the men's basketball all-time leader in made three-pointers at UFV, Feb. 18. His two makes on the night brought his career total to 205, surpassing Ryan MacKinnon's 204. Kellum currently has 208 career made three's.
  • Ashlyn Day remains the conference scoring leader, averaging 20.4 points per game. UNBC's Alina Shakirova ranks second with 19.8 points per game.
  • The Vikes' men's squad continues to lead the conference in scoring average, holding a 92.1 points per game clip.

UP NEXT
The Vikes will await seeding for the Canada West Playoff Tournament, set to get underway March 3.
