Vikes host UBC to open 2022 home slate

VICTORIA – The University of Victoria men's and women's basketball teams will play their first games of 2022 inside CARSA Performance Gym, Feb. 4-5, as they welcome the University of British Columbia for a pair of games.

NEWS & NOTES
  • Victoria's men's side holds an overall record of 7-1, while the women sit at 6-4 on the season.
  • UVic's women's team returns home after securing two wins over Thompson Rivers University, Jan. 28-29. The Vikes took down the WolfPack 71-51 Friday, and completed the comeback for a 78-75 win on Saturday.
  • The men's side will open the 2022 portion of its schedule against the Thunderbirds, last in action at CARSA Performance Gym, Dec. 3-4. UVic came away with 83-49 and 92-72 wins over UNBC.
  • The Vikes and Thunderbirds last met Canada West opening weekend. The Vikes women's squad claimed a win in buzzer-beating fashion, 74-72, for their first win of the season, while the men fell, 94-76, for their only loss on the year.
  • UBC's men's team is a perfect 13-0 and leads the Canada West standings. The Thunderbirds women hold a record of 5-7 overall.
  • Scott Kellum is one basket away from securing sole possession of 10th place on the Vikes' career scoring list. He is currently tied with former Vike Tyler Hass (2004-09) with 1,112 career points.
  • Ashlyn Day leads the Vikes with a 20.0 points per game average, a figure which ranks second in Canada West. Tana Pankratz leads the conference with her 1.9 blocks per game average.
  • Diego Maffia leads UVic with 20.4 points per game, which ranks second in Canada West. Dominick Oliveri ranks third in the conference with a 9.7 rebounds per game average.
