VICTORIA – The University of Victoria basketball teams swept the Canada West Player of the Week honours, the league announced today, March 1.
From the women's side,
Calli McMillan collects the accolade after aiding the Vikes to wins over UBCO, Feb. 24, and UNBC, Feb. 26. The fifth-year tallied 19 points, four rebounds, and two assists in the win over the Heat, and posted a 16-point, four-rebound, two-assist, and two-steal day to close out the season in the win over the Timberwolves.
Scott Kellum earns the honour on the men's side, helping the Vikes to three wins in the final week of Canada West regular season competition. The fifth-year scored 19 points, while adding five rebounds and four assists in Feb. 22's win over Thompson Rivers, then followed with a 20-point showing at UBCO, Feb. 24, with an additional two rebounds and four assists against the Heat. Closing out the season, Kellum posted a stat line of 22 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal in the win over UNBC, Feb. 26.
The Vikes head to Calgary, Alta. for the opening rounds of the Canada West playoffs. The No. 9-seeded women's team will take on the University of Calgary Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m. MT, while the No. 2-seeded men's side will face a to-be-determined opponent Saturday at 7 p.m. MT.
