Vancouver, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's soccer team fell to the University of British Columbia, 4-0, Sept. 1 at Thunderbird Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
44th Minute – UBC 1, UVic 0
- Finding an open space among the Vikes defenders, UBC managed to fire off a chip shot that curled into the upper right of the net to take the lead just before halftime.
52nd Minute – UBC 2, UVic 0
- Doubling their lead, the Thunderbirds scored on a strike from inside the box.
58th Minute – UBC 3, UVic 0
- Escaping the Vikes' defence, UBC added a third goal on the night.
61st Minute – UBC 3, UVic 0
- A header from the Thunderbirds gave the home team a 4-0 advantage.
WORTH NOTING
- Sophie Fingarson recorded the Vikes' first shot on target of the night, firing off a shot in the 31st minute that unfortunately went straight to the UBC goalkeeper for the save.
- Emma Skalik posted a pair of chances for UVic in the 76th and 80th minutes, but both tries were stopped by the UBC defence.
- Overall, the Thunderbirds finished the game with the advantage in shots (32-4), shots on goal (10-2), and corners (6-1).
- Skalik led the Vikes with two shots, while Fingarson and Tannis McKay each added one. Kayley Lidstone finished with six saves for UVic.
- The Thunderbirds improve to 3-0-0 with the win, while the Vikes move to 0-2-1 with the setback.
