VICTORIA – Coming away with its largest win of the season, the University of Victoria men's soccer team shutout Trinity Western University, 3-0, Sept. 10 at Centennial Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
27th Minute – UVic 1, TWU 0
- After Yassin Guitouni was brought down in the box, the Vikes were awarded a penalty kick. Javier Sagaste stepped up, sending the ball to the back left corner of the net for the Vikes lead.
66th Minute – UVic 2, TWU 0
- Luc Brix Monteiro found an on-the-move Nick Park near the top of the box, resulting in Park connecting to send the ball past the TWU keeper for his first goal of the game.
76th Minute – UVic 3, TWU 0
- Scoring his second of the game, Sagaste curled a free kick from the top of the box to the back of the net for the 3-0 Vikes lead.
WORTH NOTING
- TWU was shown a red card in the 27th minute, and had to play a man down for the remainder of the game.
- Park's goal marked his second of the season, while Sagaste's marked his first (and second) of the year.
- Sagaste now leads the Vikes in points (4) with two goals and two assists on the season.
- The Vikes limited the Spartans to just four shots on the night, firing off 13 themselves.
- Harjot Nijjar recorded one save in the win.
- The Vikes have now won the last three matchups against the Spartans dating back to Oct. 8, 2021.
- After a two-win weekend, the Vikes sit at 2-3-1 through six games. Trinity Western moves to 3-2-1.
