Men's soccer opens Edmonton visit with 1-1 draw to MacEwan

Edmonton, Alta. – Playing through windy conditions, the University of Victoria men's soccer team battled MacEwan University to a 1-1 draw, Sept. 17 at Clareview Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
7th Minute – UVic 1, GMU 0
  • Awarded a penalty kick after contact in the box, Javier Sagaste stepped up to the spot and buried the ball in the top right corner of the net to put the Vikes in front.
47th Minute – UVic 1, GMU 0
  • Finding the equalizer right out of the break, a header from the Griffins marked the final score of the contest.
WORTH NOTING
  • At the half, Vikes held the 1-0 lead, despite MacEwan having the advantage in shots, 7-1.
  • Javier Sagaste now has a team-high three goals on the year. Adding two assists, the midfielder leads the Vikes in total points (5).
  • Although the score was even after 90 minutes, MacEwan finished with the 19-7 lead in shots and 7-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Harjot Nijjar recorded six saves in the draw.
  • Dusan Mitrovic tallied two shots while Nick Park put one shot on target to lead the Vikes.
  • With the draw, Victoria moves to 2-3-2 on the year, while MacEwan is now 2-1-3.
