Vikes begin road tilt in Manitoba

VICTORIA – Heading to Manitoba for Canada West play for the first time since the 2017 season, the University of Victoria women's soccer team faces off against the University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba, Sept. 17-18.

SERIES HISTORY
Against the Wesmen: The Vikes and Wesmen will meet for just the fifth time since the 2012 season, in which the Vikes hold a 3-0-1 record against the Wesmen in the previous four meetings.
  • The two sides last matched up in Victoria, B.C., Sept. 16, 2017. The Vikes came away with the 1-0 win.
  • Last in Winnipeg in 2016, the two sides ended in a scoreless draw, Oct. 22, 2016.
Against the Bisons: The Vikes hold a 4-1-0 record against the Bisons in their last five meetings.
  • UVic and Manitoba last met Nov. 12, 2017 in the U SPORTS Championships consolation final in Winnipeg, Man. The Vikes finished with the 4-1 victory.
  • The last meeting between the two sides in Winnipeg for the Canada West season came Oct. 23, 2016, where the Bisons claimed a 2-0 win.

  • The Vikes are coming off losses to defending U SPORTS Champions MacEwan, 2-0, and Alberta, 2-1, Sept. 9-10. Winnipeg recently fell to UNBC, 3-1, and Calgary, 5-0, while Manitoba fell to Calgary, 4-2, and defeated UNBC, 3-1, Sept. 9-11.
  • Ruby Nicholas scored the first goal of the season for the Vikes against Alberta, Sept. 10, marking both her first goal of the season and first of her Vikes career.
  • Kayley Lidstone has amassed 37 saves through five games, the most in the conference.
  • Madisyn Furber and Jazmyn Castro have each scored one goal for Winnipeg this season, while Emma Friesen has tallied an assist to round out the Wesmen point-scorers.
  • Manitoba is led by Bianca Cavalcanti and Breyanna Johnston-Krulicki, each with four goals in 2022. Cavalcanti is also tied for the team lead with three assists to lead the Bisons in points.
