VICTORIA – Despite a flurry of chances in the final 15 minutes, the University of Victoria men's soccer team was unable to breakthrough and finished the match in a scoreless draw with the University of Lethbridge, Sept. 23 at Centennial Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While each side had a couple good looks in the first half, they were handled with ease by the respective goalkeepers, resulting in a 0-0 tie at the half.
- The Vikes came alive in the 82nd minute when Javier Sagaste was awarded a free kick just outside the box. Though the shot went high, the Vikes went on the offensive.
- Finding consecutive chances in the 85th, 86th, and 87th minutes, the Vikes were unable to get the ball in the back of the net, ending the game in a 0-0 deadlock.
WORTH NOTING
- The Vikes finished with the 10-5 advantage in overall shots, while Lethbridge edged UVic in shots on goal, 5-4. Victoria had the lead in corners at 10-4.
- Harjot Nijjar tallied five saves for the Vikes.
- Sagaste, Sam McDonald and Dusan Mitrovic each recorded two shots to lead the Vikes.
- Victoria moves to 2-4-3 on the season with the tie, while Lethbridge now sits at 1-6-1.
