Kamloops, B.C. – The University of Victoria men's basketball team claimed the 83-74 win over Thompson Rivers University, Jan. 28 at the Tournament Capital Centre to sweep the weekend series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Beginning to separate from the WolfPack early, a three-pointer from Ethan Boag gave the Vikes a 10-point lead, 22-12, with 2:08 remaining in the first quarter.
- A quick run by Thompson Rivers narrowed Victoria's lead to five, 22-17, after the opening 10 minutes of play.
- Narrowly outscoring TRU, 23-21 in the second quarter, the Vikes took a 45-38 advantage into the halftime break.
- Slowly expanding their lead, a three from Izzy Helman put the final points of the third quarter on the board and gave the Vikes a 15-point cushion, 68-53, after 30 minutes of play.
- Despite being outscored 21-15 in the final frame, the Vikes were able to close out the 83-74 win.
WORTH NOTING
- Diego Maffia led the Vikes with 18 points, also recording team-highs in rebounds (9) and assists (4) in the win.
- Trent Monkman added 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists for the Vikes.
- Dominick Oliveri and Elias Ralph each finished with 12 points, grabbing eight and seven rebounds, respectively.
- With the win, the Vikes improve to 14-2 on the season and claim their 10th-straight win, while the WolfPack fall to 5-11 with the setback.
