Abbotsford, B.C. – An early second-half goal by the University of the Fraser Valley gave the Cascades a 2-1 win over the University of Victoria men's soccer team, Oct. 20 at Rotary Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A free kick awarded to the Vikes from 30 yards out was sent by Javier Sagaste to the foot of Fin Tugwell, who put it in the back of the net for the 1-0 Vikes lead in the 28th minute.
- UFV found the equalizer in the 42nd minute to send the game into the halftime break tied, 1-1. The Cascades would go up, 2-1, with a goal in the 56th minute.
- Having a couple chances to tie in stoppage time, the best chance for the Vikes came from Remi Barbot, who had an open look eight yards out. However, his shot went high of the net and Fraser Valley came away with the win, 2-1.
WORTH NOTING
- Tugwell's goal marked the first of his Vikes career.
- Victoria out-shot UFV 17-5 overall, and 8-5 in shots on goal. UVic also finished with a 4-3 edge in corner kick opportunities.
- The Vikes hold a 9-4-2 record heading in to the final game of the conference season, while UFV sits at 3-12-0 following the win with one match to go in their season.
