Vancouver, B.C. – The fourth-seeded University of Victoria women's soccer team fell to second seed Trinity Western University, 2-0, Nov. 2 in the Canada West semifinals at Thunderbird Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a tight start between the two sides through much of the first half, the Spartans managed to break away and put a goal on the board right before halftime, scoring in the 43rd minute for the 1-0 lead.
- Trinity Western capitalized on an awarded penalty kick in the 76th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
- Despite attempts from Ruby Nicholas and Sophie Murphy to get the ball inside the box, the Vikes could not make up the deficit and ultimately fell to the Spartans, 2-0.
WORTH NOTING
- Kayley Lidstone recorded three saves in net for the Vikes.
- Sophie Fingarson and Brianne McLeish each put a shot on target for Victoria.
- The Vikes' two corner attempts both came in the final 20 minutes of play.
- The Spartans out-shot the Vikes 11-2 overall, and 5-2 in shots on goal.
- Victoria moves to 2-1 in postseason play with an overall record of 10-5-2.
