Toronto, Ont. – The University of Victoria field hockey team defeated the University of Toronto, 1-0, to even the best-of-three series at the U SPORTS Championship, Nov. 4 on Back Campus Fields.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Similar to the start of game one, both sides remained scoreless through the first two quarters, resulting in a 0-0 halftime score.
- Receiving a pass from Anni Kleinschmidt near the top of the circle, Josie Dunham turned and worked her way in, taking advantage of the Toronto goalkeeper coming out to try and make the save and sending her shot to the back of the net for the game-winner in the 58th minute.
- Holding off the Varsity Blues for the final two minutes, the Vikes came away with the 1-0 win.
WORTH NOTING
- Dunham's goal marked her first as a Vike.
- The win marks the Vikes' first regulation win over Toronto since Nov. 5, 2015, a 4-1 UVic win in Victoria at the 2015 U SPORTS Championship.
- Victoria sits at 5-2-3 on the year after the win.
