Late goal results in draw with Cougars

VICTORIA – Mount Royal University scored a late goal in the 90th minute to draw with the University of Victoria women's soccer team, 1-1, Oct. 12 at Centennial Stadium.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Both sides scoreless at the half
  • The game score remained 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of play. The Vikes tallied four shots while Kayley Lidstone made one save.
Nicholas breaks through
  • Taken down inside the box, Ruby Nicholas earned the Vikes a penalty shot which she took herself. Though the MRU keeper dove in the right direction, Nicholas' shot was quicker, hitting the back of the net to give Victoria a 1-0 lead in the 65th minute.
Cougars tie it on free kick
  • A foul called on the Vikes just outside the top centre of the box resulted in the Cougars converting on the opportunity, sending the free kick to the back of the net in the 90th minute to finalize the game score at 1-1. 
WORTH NOTING
  • Ruby Nicholas' goal was her eighth of the year, and 13th point. The eight goals are good for third-most in the league, while the 13 points are tied for most in Canada West.
  • Mount Royal out-shot Victoria 12-8 overall, though the Vikes held a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Vikes move to 6-2-4 on the year with the tie, while MRU goes to 3-6-3.
