Women's soccer heads to Calgary for Canada West Final Four

VICTORIA - The University of Victoria women's soccer team returns to the Canada West Final Four for the second-straight season, this time taking on the top prairie seed University of Calgary in the semifinal round, Nov. 1 at McMahon Stadium.

LAST 5 MEETINGS
  • The Vikes and Dinos are 2-2-1 against each other in the last five meetings between the two sides. Last matching up Sept. 23, 2022 in Calgary, the two sides ended in a 1-1 tie.
NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes head to the final four as the second seed from the prairie division, holding an 8-2-5 overall record after a 7-2-5 regular season mark and 1-0 start to the postseason following a 1-0 quarterfinal win over Saskatchewan, Oct. 26.
  • Calgary enters the semifinal match as the top seed in the prairie, holding an 12-2-1 overall record following an 11-2-1 Canada West season. The Dinos defeated UBCO, 1-0, Oct. 25 in the quarterfinal round to advance. 
  • The Vikes advance to the Canada West Final Four for the second-straight season. At the 2023 edition, the Vikes fell to Trinity Western in the semifinals, 2-0. Though scoreless with Saskatchewan at the end of regulation in the bronze medal game, the Vikes ultimately fell in penalty kicks.
  • Ruby Nicholas was named the Canada West Player of the Year, and leads the Vikes with eight goals, six assists and 14 points. Her goal and assist totals were fifth-most in Canada West, while her 14 points placed her fourth in the conference leaderboard.
  • Sophie Fingarson, a Canada West Second Team All-Star, currently sits in second on the Vikes with eight points on the year from four goals and four assists. Fingarson netted the game-winner against Saskatchewan in the quarterfinal round to send the Vikes to the semifinals.
  • On the other side of the bracket, UBC will face Trinity Western for a spot in the Canada West final. The winner of each of the two matchups will advance to the gold medal game, while the remaining two teams will play for the conference bronze medal.
